EDITORIAL

This third issue of Swale Life in a way sets out our plans for the future. We have continued to keep this magazine small and sweet, with a balance of news and events items in Swale alongside creative writing.

The Swale Life Writing Workshops for Young People are quarterly workshops we are set to run from the end of the first quarter of 2011. With on-site workshopping in Sittingbourne and another online, we expect to impact creatively in and around Swale and across the country helping our youth acquire the necessary skills for lives in the literary sector.

Other not-to-be-missed events from September are the Women Empowering Women for Leadership conference slated for September 23rd, 2010, and the Community Cohesion in Swale and Kent billed for October 6th.

In the poetry corner, Nnorom Azuonye's 'This Land is not a Land of Terror' brings a bit of twist into the on-going discussion about whether Nigeria should be viewed as a terrorist nation following the attempted bombing of US airliner by Umar Abdulmuttallab, by worrying about other on-going concerns in the country such as armed robbery and kidnapping.

Two stories in the fiction sector are well-told by Mary-Laine Friday 'The Shoes that Took Her Away' in which the viccissitudes of a runaway's life are so tenderly rendered and 'The Island' by Briony Jones which explores the anxieties of being stranded in an island all alone which draws the reader into the breathless dreamscape.

I hope I have not put too much spoilers in.

Enjoy. Swale Life, Issue #3
